About me

My name is Ramona. I am half-Dutch and half-Sri-Lankan. I moved around alot growing up and lived in places like: Sri-Lanka, Pakistan, Vietnam, The UK and currently reside in The Netherlands. Travelling is the one thing I know and love doing and want to keep doing. I started posting a lot of travel pictures on instagram but I have realized that it is still limited in telling all the fun stories and experiences so after thinking about it for a couple months I finally decided to take the leap and go for it.

You might be wondering where I got the name from the website from. It all started with me seeing an acquaintance at a party and she said that she loved seeing my instagram photos because I kept showing photos of beautiful places that no-one would think to go visit. It’s true, for me when I go to another country I usually choose a place that is very unknown mostly because I want to experience its authenticity which has not been tainted too much by tourism. So with this in mind I set about trying to find a fitting name. On my instagram feed I saw an advertisement for a new Dutch tv-show called “van het padje” which roughly translates to being off the track/path. This sounded interesting to me so I Googled similar phrases and then I stumbled upon this gem of a poem by Robert Frost called The Road Not Taken that resonates with me and my passion for travelling:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
The last two lines embody my want for travelling to not so typical destinations because indeed taking the path less traveled by makes all the difference since the experiences are unforeseen, authentic and a learning experience.
